![]() He also confirmed that as a safety feature, you have to connect the device and leave it plugged in to use some functions (like lockers in 4 hi, winching idle, etc.).ĥ. Since the updates have to be installed one at a time (about 20 mins each), he waited via email exchange until I had done the TPMS one before applying the tuning one. I called support and got a very helpful guy named Anthony who immediately emailed me the TPMS waiver and sold me the flashpaq upgrade at a discount. ![]() This seems to have been an issue w/ the resolution of the PC, which I was later able to fix by making the text on screen much smaller in Control Panel.Ĥ. I got to the end screen but the options were half off the screen. However, I knew that at the end I'd have the option to add the TPMS on/off option* (they need you to sign a waiver for this) and to upgrade to a full flashpaq tuner (for $).ģ. 1st run through, Spark updated the device easily (this took about 15 mins). Attach device w/ USB cable as instructed. This was easy peasy, except that the Superchips site nav has changed and the software is now found under Updates (rather than Support as the printed instrux said).Ģ. Install the Spark update software on the PC. At this stage I have not plugged into the Jeep yet, wanted to do that once ALL the updates were made first.ġ. Because it requires a PC to update it, I just now got a chance to install at work using a loaner laptop. My brother bought me a flashcal (the version without tuning) for Xmas this year. Jumping into this old thread hoping it may help someone who finds via forum search or the Google (like I did). I hope this helps prevent someone from making a costly mistake and messing up their Jeep. I don't know what would happen if you connected the unit to the Jeep with a "database error", but I can't imagine much good coming from it so be careful and vigilant about things. Verify the computer and the device say everything is good before disconnecting. Just because the computer says "your device is up to date" does not mean that is it. I put this up here for the benefit of others and as a reminder to not only double check what the computer says regarding the upgrade, and to also CHECK WHAT THE UNIT SAYS. Over the next several weeks, I'll continue to mess with all of the different options.įor the record, here's the status of what I have. but the Jeep seems more responsive, the transmission shifts better (I have an auto), etc.įor those considering the $179.99 upgrade to your Flashcal, I think it was worth it. I've only ran it for a day so the jury is still out with regards to long term driveability, MPG, etc. I'm VERY impressed and think it is a worthwhile upgrade. With that knowledge, I went out to the Jeep and loaded the 87 octane tune. that I had done and confirmed that everything was loaded properly. What they had done was checked with engineering and their tech department and using the SN of my unit, they were able to see what updates, what downloads, etc. ![]() Being the skeptic that I am, I wondered "when" they'd call back but to my surprise, it was less than 15 minutes. They seemed rather concerned and asked me a series of questions and said they'd call back. Still reluctant to connect it to the Jeep, I called Superchips and told them what had happened. Once everything went through and looked OK, I disconnected the unit from the computer. I was a bit nervous of the whole process because the last thing I wanted to do was screw up the Jeep's computer. On the third time (never having disconnected anything from my computer), everything went through just fine. That rattled me a bit so I ran through the process a second time only to get the same results. When it began the download of the upgrade, it went through to complettion andĪt this point, I figured everything was good and almost disconnected the unit from my computer but then I noticed this: When that update was completed, I purchased the up grade to make my Flashcal into a Flashpaq. The process I followed was based on the directions from Superchips, but I ran into a snag. Just wanted to post this for those wanting to make this upgrade.
